TUNEL
- The tunnel was put into service with a big ceremony on January 17, 1875.

The tunnel is opposite the city of Suriçi; The starting point of the railway is 140 meters from Galata Bridge, 90 meters from Golden Horn and 70 meters from Galata Mevlevihanesi.

- While the height of the railway is 1.15 meters above sea level, it rises to 62.70 meters in BeyoÄŸlu. The profile of the railway which is laid inside the tunnel is not flat. On the Galata side, there is a ramp at the beginning to ensure that the wagons gain enough speed to overcome the next uphill.

-The tunnels, the world's second, is Turkey's first subway. In its kind (underground) is the first application in the world. In the same period, cities such as Vienna, Pest, Lyon have railroads that operate with similar mechanisms but operate on the ground. Tunnel is the first application in the world because of its underground operation.
